Toshikazu Tanaka has been President & CEO of Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. from June 24, 2009. He is responsible for overall management of the Company which has business interests in performance materials, advanced chemicals, and basic chemicals.
After graduating from Kyushu University, Mr. Tanaka joined Mitsui Toatsu Chemicals, Inc. in 1968 and gained experience in marketing and sales of phenol and other industrial chemicals.
After the amalgamation of Mitsui Toatsu Chemicals, Inc. and Mitsui Petrochemicals Industries, Ltd., at the newly formed Mitsui Chemicals, Inc., Mr. Tanaka worked to launch the company’s phenol business into the global arena based on his extensive experience in marketing and business management.
Since 2005, as Executive Vice President, Mr. Tanaka assisted the President and Chief Executive Officer in overall management. In 2007, he led the team which compiled the Company’s Fiscal Year 2008 Mid-Term Business Plan. Since last autumn’s global economic crisis, Mr. Tanaka took a leadership role in compiling emergency countermeasures and their execution to meet volatile market conditions.
Originally from Fukuoka Prefecture, his hobbies are cycling, driving, and visiting hot springs.
