Utilizing the World-class Research Resources in Singapore to Contribute to Mitsui Chemicals Group's Research and Development
Singapore is enjoying rapid growth by gathering together the world's top-class researchers and research facilities with the aim of becoming a major R&D hub of Asia. Mitsui Chemicals Asia Pacific Technical Centre was opened in 2006 in order to play a role in next-generation technological innovation in Mitsui Chemicals Group by effectively utilizing the attractive environment in Singapore. The Centre is Mitsui Chemicals Group's first overseas research base and located in The Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences (ICES), a part of The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) of Singapore.
Based on Mitsui Chemicals' R&D Policy, the Centre is pursuing development of next-generation technologies in the fields of molecular catalysis, heterogeneous catalysis and biocatalysis in partnership with the Catalysis Science Laboratory of Mitsui Chemicals. Among its achievements to date is the creation of world-class performance asymmetric catalysts, which are crucial in the manufacture of pharmaceutical and agrochemical intermediates.
The regional management company Mitsui Chemicals Asia Pacific, Ltd. now has R&D functions in addition to its sales and marketing functions.
