R&D Organization and Sites
Toward the Future of Chemistry and the Materialization of Dreams
The Mitsui Chemicals Group has gathered together the technological prowess of its R&D organization with the aim of creating innovative materials, substances and new performance. The Mitsui Chemicals Group works on development of products that strengthen and expands its businesses, and R&D of new technologies and new materials targeting the next generation.
R&D Organization
Mitsui Chemicals' R&D organization is composed of three sections: the Development Centers in the Business Sectors, the Research Laboratories in the Research Center and the Process Technology Center within the Production & Technology Center. Under the Development Center in the Performance Materials Business Sector are the Materials Laboratory, the Product Development Laboratory and the Technology Laboratory. Under the Development Center in the Advanced Chemicals Business Sector are also the Fine & Performance Chemicals Laboratory and the Agrochemicals Laboratory. These laboratories conduct research on the development of products that sustain, strengthen, and expand the company's core businesses. The latest information on the market, new market development, and other relevant matters are exchanged among these Development Centers, Business Divisions, the Research Center, the Process Technology Center and Subsidiaries and affiliates on a daily basis.
The Research Laboratories in the Research Center engage in company-wide R&D activities, such as basic technology development, new materials development, and process development. Catalysis science forms the basis of innovations and creation of materials, and the Catalysis Science Laboratory is the foundation of all of Mitsui Chemicals' R&D activities. The Material Science Laboratory develops new materials for next generation products aiming to create new functional materials.
The Process Technology Center within the Production & Technology Center develops process technologies for the industrial production of these materials.
Moreover, Mitsui Chemicals opened the First Overseas R&D Centre, "MITSUI CHEMICALS ASIA PACIFIC TECHNICAL CENTRE" in Jurong Island of Singapore on October 1st, 2006. This Centre works on research in catalysis and materials.
Mitsui Chemicals further strengthens its links with its subsidiaries and affiliates, and the Mitsui Chemicals Group conducts R&D as a cohesive whole.
R&D Sites
Mitsui Chemicals completed the integration of its R&D capabilities in 2002, beginning in 1998 with the consolidation of facilities situated in various locations throughout Japan. As a result, 1000 researchers and engineers of Mitsui Chemicals and its affiliates work at the Sodegaura Center. It is one of the largest R&D centers in Japan. The Mobara area with its greenhouses and test fields is the R&D hub of the Agrochemicals Laboratory. On site, R&D facilities specializing in the commercialization of developed materials are also part of the nationwide R&D network.
