Toward the Future of Chemistry and the Materialization of Dreams

The Mitsui Chemicals Group’s R&D organizational aim is to develop new and innovative materials, products, and technologies with enhanced performance suitable for the 21st century.

R&D Organization

Mitsui Chemicals' R&D organization is composed of four sections: the Development Divisions in the Business Sectors, the Research Laboratories in the Research Center, the Process Technology Center within the Production & Technology Center, and the New Materials Development Center.

Under the Business Sectors are the Polyurethane Development Division, the Functional Polymeric Materials Development Division, the Fabricated Products Development Division, and the Functional Chemicals Materials Development Division.

These laboratories conduct research on the development of products that sustain, strengthen, and expand the company's core businesses. The latest information regarding market developments and other relevant matters are exchanged among all R&D departments, business divisions, subsidiaries, and affiliates on a daily basis.

The Research Laboratories in the Research Center engage in company-wide R&D activities, such as basic technology development, new materials development, and process development. As catalysis science forms the basis behind innovations and the creation of materials, the Catalysis Science Laboratory is considered to be the foundation of all of Mitsui Chemicals' R&D activities. The Material Science Laboratory develops new materials and creates next generation products with added functionality.

The Process Technology Center within the Production & Technology Center develops process technologies for the industrial production of these materials.

The New Materials Development Center was formed for the purpose of improving communication and links between R&D departments, of accelerating the development of new products, of matching Mitsui’s many differentiated materials and technologies with market needs, and of bringing these products, materials and technologies to an early commercialization.

Mitsui Chemicals has a strong group-wide R&D base which includes overseas facilities, such as the "Mitsui Chemicals Asia Pacific Technical Centre", and domestic facilities of group companies, such as the Tohcello Co., Ltd. R&D Center, Mitsui Chemicals Agro, Inc. Agrochemicals Research & Development Division, Prime Polymer Co., Ltd. Research and Development Division and the Mitsui Chemicals Analysis & Consulting Service Inc.
