Announcement of organization restructuring

Mitsui Chemicals, Inc.

Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (Tokyo: 4183; President & CEO: Tsutomu Tannowa) announced organization restructuring effective April 1st 2015 as part of the Company's effort to accelerate business strategy, new business & product creation strategy, and business support strategy in 2014 Mid-Term Business Plan.

Main purposes are as follows.

  1. To implement 2014 Mid-Term Business Plan by clarifying business domain of each business sector.
  2. To strengthen business support function and speed up decision making by improving operational efficiency and reducing interdepartmental coordination.

1. Restructuring of Business Sector

To restructure business sector based on business domain and implement business strategy in 2014 Mid-Term Business Plan, organization restructuring will be implemented with revisions(1)to(4)

  1. Fine & Performance Chemicals Division in Functional Chemicals Business Sector will be transferred to Basic Chemicals Business Sector
  2. Licensing Division in Functional Chemicals Business Sector will be transferred to Petrochemicals Business Sector
  3. Mitsui Chemicals Agro, Inc. in Functional Chemicals Business Sector will be upgraded from a “division” to a “business sector.”
  4. Functional Chemicals Business Sector will be renamed as “Health Care Business Sector.”

2. Establishment of “R&D Center”

“Research & Development Center” will be established to organize all R&D related activities in R&D Strategy Division, Mitsui Chemicals Singapore R&D Centre Pte. Ltd. , Synthetic Chemicals Laboratory, Polymeric Materials Laboratory, Functional Materials Laboratory, New Products Development Laboratory, Process Technology Center, Advancing Analysis Laboratory, and R&D Administration Division. R&D Center will unify all R&D functions and strengthen cross-laboratory cooperation and accelerate creation and commercialization of new business and products.

3. Restructuring of Production & Technology Center, Safety & Environment Division, RC & Quality Assurance Division, and Internal Control Division

  1. To strengthen corporate governance, auditing function of Safety & Environment Division and RC & Quality Assurance Division will be integrated and transferred to Internal Control Division as “Safety Auditing Group.”
  2. To strengthen safety management by incorporating production & technology function of Production & Technology Center and safety & environment function of Safety & Environment Division, safety & environment function of Safety & Environment Division will be transferred to Production & Technology Center and “Safety & Environment Technology Division” will be established.
  3. To strengthen business such as medical devices by adding chemical safety function to quality management system of RC & Quality Assurance Division, chemical safety function (including Chemical Safety Department) in Safety & Environment Division will be transferred to RC & Quality Assurance Division.

4. Incorporation of SCM division, Corporate Performance Management Division, and Finance & Accounting Division

To strengthen performance management function and improve operational efficiency of business support function, SCM Division, Corporate Performance Management Division, and Finance & Accounting Division will be incorporated as “Finance & Accounting Division.”

5. Incorporation of Corporate Communications Division and CSR Division

To improve efficiency by uniting internal and external communication functions, Corporate Communications Division and CSR Division will be incorporated as “Corporate Communications Division.”

6. Incorporation of Corporate Administration Division and Legal Division

To improve operational efficiency, Corporate Administration Division and Legal Division will be incorporated as “Corporate Administration & Legal Division”

7. Establishment of “Fabricated Products Business Coordination Division”

To realize cross business sector synergy effect and expand business regarding fabricated products business (films & sheets and nonwovens) through early commercialization of new business, innovation of technology and facility, and personnel training, “Fabricated Products Business Coordination Division” will be established. Fabricated Products Business Coordination Division will organize supporting activities for R&D, production technology and people development.

8. Establishment of “Food & Packaging Business Promotion Division”

To facilitate basic strategy and realize cross group synergy effect, “Food & Packaging Business Promotion Division” will be established. Food & Packaging Business Promotion Division will accelerate Food & Packaging Strategy in 2014 Mid-Term Business Plan and hold administration & planning function of business activity of Mitsui Chemicals Tohcello, Inc and Mitsui Chemicals Agro, Inc.
